My Fitness Journey: Part 6. Taking a break for my mental health

Hi guys! It’s September now, and time for another long awaited update on my fitness journey – but one with a twist! For months now I have been working really hard to try and get myself in better shape, fitness-wise. I’ve been trying to eat better, exercise more, and just make my body stronger and hopefully get a bit more energy. Well after a pretty hell-ish month, I’ve basically undone any good I had built up previously and ended up feeling worse than ever. I have been eating more than I should, mostly bad things, to the point where my body has been screaming for something healthy. And, not surprisingly,…

    The week my mum disappeared

My mum likes to run away from her problems. She always has. Growing up she liked to run away from financial problems, or relationship breakdowns. But she never really did anything extreme because we were kids. Apart from when her marriage to my dad broke down and she took three under 3 year olds from London to Wales. But when me and my older brother finally flew the nest and went to Uni she upped and moved in with our Grandmother after the break up from her engagement. Or at least that’s my understanding of it. My younger brother who was 17 at the time was also moved, it disrupted…

    Self-care on an energy budget.

I love reading about self-care and the different things people do to help look after their minds, bodies and souls. I always leave feeling full to the brim with new ideas, over flowing with excitement about all the new fun and calming things I am going to do for myself. And then, I never do them. The fact of the matter is, as much as I love colouring, writing, reading, walking, dancing, socialising and all the other things people recommend, I rarely ever have the energy for them. I have so many plans in my head and none of them come to fruition. It’s a shame really, because when I…

My weekend away with Chronic Fatigue Sydrome

I had a pretty awesome weekend away last week. Not only did I get to see family members that I don’t get to see very often, but I got to attend the most beautiful wedding my of cousin Andrew – it was a magical day, it really was. In light of that I thought I would write a bit about what it’s like for someone like me, who suffers from CFS/M.E, to go away for a weekend like this, and how I plan for it (and recover from it). Side note: Andy and Ruth if you happen to read this, I was honoured to be at your wedding last week,…

    A Letter to my Anxiety

Dear Anxiety, We’ve been together for at least thirteen years now. Wow that flew by quickly.  It’s hard to believe that you’ve known me since I was a teenager, watched me grow, and have been with me through my whole adult life.  It’s taken me a while to be able to write this letter to you, because I’ve been with you so long I don’t know how to be without you. But I think now may be the time for me to move on.  You’ve given me some memories. I know you’ve only been trying to keep me safe but most of the time your idea of safe wasn’t realistic.…

    Mental Health Triggers: The Workplace

“Work hard, be kind, and amazing things will happen” – Conan O’brien. After writing a couple of pretty raw and emotional pieces about my experiences with mental health (that I have yet to publish), I’ve decided to create a new series – the RaR series. This stands for raw and real, and the aim is to bring you raw and real mental health stories that tackle important things that I feel we really need to discuss. For the first one I thought I’d ease myself in, and start with one thing that for many is simple and easy, but for me is a massive trigger: work.  No time to read?…

5 self-care questions to ask yourself today.

It’s officially April! I thought what better way to kick off the month than by reflecting on my own goals, thoughts and feelings going forward. I have been feeling very uninspired of late, so instead of thinking of a whole topic to blog about I have decided to answer some important self-care questions that could help to shape this new month, and season in my life. I found these questions when I was looking at self-care on pinterest. I can’t take credit for coming up with them, I can only take credit for my answers. The brain behind them is the lovely Anne over at Simplicity Avenue. You can view…

Anxiety Girl: The Book We All Need In Our Lives

Lacey London’s Anxiety Girl is the anxiety book we all need, to read, to experience and to share! I don’t often review books, because it takes me quite a long time to read them. By the time I’ve finished the book I don’t really remember what happened along the way, I am just left with whether I generally liked it or not. This book was different. As soon as I finished it I knew I had to write about it. 5 reasons you need to take a break for your wellbeing.

Take a break. It’s for your health. If you follow me on twitter you will have noticed that the last couple of weeks I have been feeling pretty rubbish. In fact, this last week I’ve not been able to blog at all, even on my days off, because I couldn’t get my brain in gear. I’ve been excessively tired, even more than usual, I’ve had a really bad cold, and my joints have been getting progressively more painful. On the plus side I have been sleeping better than I have in months! Firstly, my apologies for the lack of blog updates. I do usually pride myself on multiple posts a…

Knitting: The Mindful Craft You Need In Your Life

Knitting gets a bad rep as something that only old women do. The thing your grandmother does in her comfy chair to produce all those cardigans that make you itch and you only wear on special occasions. But it shouldn’t be. Knitting is a great passtime, for absolutely everyone, and is actually quite a mindful activity. You can do it wherever you are, you can have the TV on in the background, or music, and before you know it hours have gone by and you’ve created something magnificent. Read on to find out why I love to knit so much, and how it’s helped me with my mental and physical…
