My Fitness Journey: Part 6. Taking a break for my mental health

Hi guys!

It’s September now, and time for another long awaited update on my fitness journey – but one with a twist!

For months now I have been working really hard to try and get myself in better shape, fitness-wise. I’ve been trying to eat better, exercise more, and just make my body stronger and hopefully get a bit more energy.

Well after a pretty hell-ish month, I’ve basically undone any good I had built up previously and ended up feeling worse than ever. I have been eating more than I should, mostly bad things, to the point where my body has been screaming for something healthy. And, not surprisingly, I have had little to no energy for any form of exercise. So, after months of doing yoga 5 days a week and trying to do other active things I’ve barely done anything for over a month.

It’s been a very stressful time (if you really want to read about it you can read some of it here, I’m sure I’ll write more about it all in time). I don’t think I’ve really been dealing with it all very well. I’m more of a ‘bury it all’ or an ‘eat your feelings’ kind of person.

So, as I know that mental health is just as important as physical health, and I actively advocate that, I’ve decided to take some of my own advice: your health is more important. And in this case, my mental health is.

Beating myself up each time I eat something bad, or don’t get any exercise done, is not helping me in any way. While I do still want to get fit and am still trying to eat healthier, I’m not going to get anywhere if I’m doing something that ultimately makes me feel bad.

That’s why I’m putting on the breaks. This was meant to be a positive experience and it has turned out to be the opposite of that.

I will still contribute to this series, and write about health and fitness and the things I am doing. But for now I am going to stop documenting the journey as I have been doing. I need to take some time out for my mental health, because fitness is about the whole body, and the mind is a part of that.

I look forward to updating you all very soon, once I feel a bit more together!

Peace out 🙂 xo
