Anxiety Girl: The Book We All Need In Our Lives

Lacey London’s Anxiety Girl is the anxiety book we all need, to read, to experience and to share!

I don’t often review books, because it takes me quite a long time to read them. By the time I’ve finished the book I don’t really remember what happened along the way, I am just left with whether I generally liked it or not.

This book was different. As soon as I finished it I knew I had to write about it.

Why should you read Anxiety Girl by Lacey London?

I didn’t know what to expect from Anxiety Girl to be perfectly honest. How was the book going to pan out? Did it actually feature someone with anxiety or was it just in the title? But what I found in the pages was a book that perfectly captured the feeling of anxiety and depression, and even the speed it can escalate. It feels like the book that we need in this day and age.

This quote really stuck with me – putting depression and anxiety in a way I have never looked at them before.

Anxiety is presented realistically

When I was first reading the book, following the life of Sadie Valentine – young girl trying to get over a failed engagement – I was left wondering where the anxiety part was going to come in. Yes, she seemed a bit sad but there were no real symptoms there.

It was still an interesting book, and I was hooked to see what was going to happen to here, but for the most part she seemed like a normal, albeit very well off, girl.

But that’s the thing about anxiety. It’s not always obvious that it’s there, even to us. It may come out in the odd thought, or odd thing we say, but we don’t always notice it.

And we don’t always realise the ways we are acting are self-destructive, because we are trying to get away from our anxiety. It can have a detrimental effect on your life before you even know it’s there. That’s a hard thing to capture in writing, but Anxiety Girl has it.

It really struck a chord

When the more “obvious” symptoms start to arise, the descriptions are so vivid, so real, it’s as if I am experiencing it for myself. There were points where I was actually left in tears and had to put the book down because I could feel the words so clearly.

This sounds like a bad thing, and I do recommend you read with caution if you are currently experiencing the full throws of anxiety as it can act as a trigger, but it’s an AMAZING thing.

It’s so hard to explain what anxiety feels like, but Lacey has done it. She has described it so well that you can feel it as you are reading it. It’s perfect.

You really should check it out!

I won’t spoil the ending for you, you can find out for yourself what happens to Sadie and her experience with anxiety. But I will say that you need to read this book. Your friends need to read this book. Your family need to read this book! It’s a very manageable length, and I promise you won’t be able to put it down (unless you need to of course).

An added bonus, at the time of writing, Lacey is giving away free copies of Anxiety Girl on Kindle, just download it from ” target=”_blank” aria-label=”undefined (opens in a new tab)” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Amazon. For more promotions and other fun things, follow her on twitter @thelaceylondon
