Sleep With Me Podcast: My Secret Weapon for Sleep

Sleep is such an important part of our lives, it’s essential. Yet so many of us struggle with it. I myself find it really hard to fall asleep, and to stay asleep. If you’ve tried many of the tips for a good night’s sleep that are out there, and found nothing that works, I’m here to introduce you to my secret weapon: the Sleep With Me Podcast.

My main issue when I am trying to sleep is that I just cannot shut off my brain. Sometimes I am thinking so quickly when I try to sleep that I actually get dizzy and light headed. I think about absolutely everything – things from the past, things that may happen in the future, EVERYTHING. And I have tried everything to stop this from happening.

I’ve tried using worry time to reduce the things I worry about in bed, and that did help a bit. For a long time I was relying on having the TV on so I had something to listen to, and it does work sometimes, but a lot of the time I just think over it.

It’s been immensely frustrating, especially as my other half is one of those people who falls asleep within seconds of his head hitting the pillow (that may be an exaggeration but it is unbelievably fast!) But since finding the Sleep With Me Podcast I have had fewer issues with sleep.

It’s a podcast unlike any other I’ve ever heard. Created by Drew Ackerman, who goes by Scooter, it is designed to help you fall asleep, that is it’s only purpose. It makes enough sense for your mind to follow along and listen to it, but not enough sense that you get distracted by it and stay awake.

It won’t be for everyone, as Scooter himself is aware, some people don’t get on with it at all. But if it is for you it is like pure magic. Why not try it a couple of times and see if it can help you to sleep – what’s the worst that can happen?

Why is the Sleep With Me Podcast So Good?

I’ve never made it to the end of an episode

This is not an exaggeration, I have never made it through a whole episode without falling asleep. So if you want proof that it works, there it is.

The episodes are about an hour to an hour and a half long, so there’s a lot of time there for you to fall asleep. It’s split up into the intro, which is about 20 minutes, and then the main show. Honestly, I usually don’t make it past the intro but on the instances where I have made it to the main event it has been great.

Generally the show involves Scooter talking through an episode of a TV show – he’s recently done the Mandolorian, and The Good Place which was great. I have watched both of those religiously, and now I’ve listened to the Sleep With Me versions too!

It’s such a simple concept but SO effective. Trust me. You won’t regret it.

It helps you wind down

As Scooter says in the podcast itself, many people use the introduction section to wind down before bed. They listen while they clean their teeth or get into their pajamas. But whether you do that or not the podcast is still helpful in getting your mind ready for bed.

I find that when I’m listening to the introduction my body is getting more relaxed and, although I do often fall asleep through it as I’ve previously said, preparing itself to sleep. I gradually find it easier to concentrate on the podcast, and my thoughts slow down. The whole experience ia just relaxing, unwinding, and calming. And that’s why this podcast is now a permanent fixture in my bed time routine.

It comes from a place of compassion and empathy

The podcast itself was created because Scooter struggled with insomnia. His whole purpose with Sleep With Me is to help other people who are dealing with the same thing. He understands truly what it is like to struggle with sleep, and you really feel that through the show.

I think the main thing that truly shows his compassion for those of us who struggle with sleep is that there is an entire page on the website dedicated to other things you can try if Sleep With Me doesn’t work for you. It’s obviously not going to work for everyone, and that’s fine! But Scooter cares so much that he is actively pointing you away from the show to other things that could help you. And I think that’s pretty rare nowadays!

Even the ads are relaxing.

Honestly, the bane of my life with podcasts are the adverts. They’re scripted and terrible and just ruin the flow of the show. Not many of them do them right – but with Sleep With Me, they fit with the overall theme of the show and don’t interrupt it at all. Most of the time I don’t notice they’re there.

I’m not naive, I know they need adverts and sponsors, but I just love that this podcast doesn’t break out of character for the sake of advertising. The tone remains constant throughout, and you can tell Scooter is honestly grateful for any support the show gets as it helps him keep it free for all of us who use it.

He also does shout outs now to thank those who have used the sponsors and tagged him online, which I think is a nice touch.

I do also want to note that the theme song is also awesome, and relaxing – I always have a little dance to it in bed when it comes on, an added bonus.

There are HUNDREDS of them

At the time of writing this post there are 955 episodes to listen to. Even if you listen to one a night, it will take you a VERY long time to get through them also. And the joy of falling asleep through them is that you can listen to each one more than once!

You will literally NEVER run out of it. It will be there to help you ALWAYS. (I’m quite excited to see what he does when he gets to 1000!)

There are also many other episodes and benefits available to any Patreon supporters, but it’s not a requirement to be one in order to access all this amazing content. I feel so lucky to have stumbled upon this seemingly endless stream of sleep magic – I have been listening every day for quite a while now and I’m not even a quarter of the way through it!

So why listen to Sleep With Me?

I honestly don’t know what I would do without this podcast. It has been created to help you have a better night’s sleep and it actually does work. I cannot recommend it enough.

So why not give it a go tonight, it’s free, it’s available on all podcast apps, and is free (did I say that already?).

Do you have anything you consider to be a secret weapon for sleep? Or have you tried this podcast already? Leave me a comment below, I’d love to hear from you!

Until next time

Hi! As a troubled sleeper, I am going to give it a go. I have nothing to lose and so much to gain. Although my biggest issue is waking up in the middle of the night perhaps I can fall asleep again with the podcast. I will let you know how it goes!
