My fitness journey: Part Three

It’s time for the next instalment of my journey to fitness – part 3, 4 weeks in.

If you haven’t already, feel free to go back and read part one and part two.

I’ve been trying to be a healthier person for just about a month – trying to exercise more and eat better – in the hope of improving my fitness and keeping myself alive longer.

It hasn’t really been my aim to lose weight or get smaller. While I am a big gal, my size isn’t the problem. I just feel so unhealthy. Things I’ve more recently noticed, on top of struggling to get up one flight of stairs, is wheezing noises in my chest when I breathe in. Now that can’t be a good sign! I want to eradicate that and make sure I’m keeping my heart and my body happy!

I don’t often include photo’s of myself in blog posts, but in an effort to document my journey I thought it was about time!

And it’s a very good thing I’ve not been trying to lose weight because I’ve actually gained weight in the last few months, so I have completely failed there!

So how have I been doing?

Diet.

I think my diet has remained the same. I haven’t made any changes since last time, but I do think I’ve had more cheat days than I should have.
What often happens is that one cheat day (usually a Friday or saturday) just turns into a cheat weekend. I don’t really think that’s helping.

I’ve also been having a few too many takeaways. One every now and then is okay, I mean I never used to have them at all. But there has been one weekend in the last two weeks where we had two in a row, and while my stomach is always happy in the moment it’s just not the next day.

My aim is to limit myself to just one takeaway over the next two weeks. Yes they are easier, and they taste awesome, but they encourage overeating and are just full of fat, or sugar, or both.

It’s going to be hard to cut out junk altogether when it’s just been easter and I have a few Easter eggs to get through, but I’m going to try not to binge eat them. I will try my best to have only a bit a day. It’s tough to resist but I am going to try! (Hopefully they’ll last a bit longer this year!)

Apart from that I do think I’m doing okay with my diet. Lots of veg whenever I can, relatively healthy meals for lunch and dinner (I’ve not got as far as having breakfast yet but that is going to change very soon!) I am also doing better at NOT having a dessert after my dinner, even when I crave one, go me!

Exercise

I’m still feeling a bit short on my exercise if I’m honest.

Again with the exception of last weekend, due to travelling, late nights and just full on days, I have managed to do yoga every day. I am still enjoying it and I have been successful in introducing longer and more difficult sessions into my week.

I’ve been using Yoga with Adriene, which I truly recommend everyone check out. Her programs are so easy to follow, and she encourages mindfulness while you do it – which is good for your body and mind!

While yoga is making me feel stronger, as well as helping me relax, I don’t feel like it’s doing me enough good on its own. It could just be my impatience here of not feeling any results quickly, however I do think I need to introduce something else into the mix.

I was doing a lot of walking, and that didn’t feel enough either (crazy really), but as of next week I am starting a new job which I won’t be able to walk to so I’m going to lose that extra bit of exercise.

I’ve said time and time again in the past that I find cardio really tough because of my ME, it just leaves me feeling completely depleat of energy the next day. But I do feel my body needs it. So I am toying with the idea of doing some form of cardio – running or zumba possibly.

So watch this space, everything may change in the coming weeks.

I know that summer is coming up and everyone is starting to focus on their bikini body, but do remember your health is the most important thing in the world. You need to look after it.

Your body IS your bikini body!
